Google Maps’ Wi-Fi Only Mode? Not Wi-Fi Only!

What is it with companies using descriptive terms for their products that don't really match what you are getting?

Internet flatrates that limit the amount of data that you may transfer, anyone? Google rolls out an update for the Google Maps application on Android currently that brings improved offline access capabilities to the mapping app.

Find out which version of Windows 10 is installed

Microsoft changed how feature updates are released on Windows. While updates are still delivered via Windows Updates and other update options, updates on Windows 10 are not reflected in the operating system's name.

There is no Windows 10 Service Pack 1, or Windows 10.1, for instance, and Microsoft has no plans to change that.

This makes it a tad difficult to find out which version of Windows 10 is installed on a device.

Fix Sync icons not showing up in Explorer

Many file synchronization services display overlays on icons that indicate a file's or folder's sync status.

This is useful as it provides direct information on whether files are available on the local system, currently in sync, or not available at all.

If you have installed several sync clients on your Windows PC, or tried several but removed some of them again, you may have run into a display issue concerning those sync icons.

OneDrive Automatic Albums feature rolling out

If you happen to store photos on Microsoft's online file hosting and synchronization service OneDrive, you may have noticed already that Microsoft added new features to it recently.

Probably the biggest one announced yesterday was the new automatic albums functionality. Basically, what it does is try to group photos based on time and location, and display the most promising ones directly to you.

So, you may check out albums created automatically by OneDrive for you, and share those with others. The feature may save you from doing these things manually if it works well.
