Convict Conditioning body-weight workout app

Convict Conditioning is a free body-weight workout application for Android that offers easy step-by-step workouts to increase your strength and fitness level.

One of the advantages of body-weight workouts is that little or no equipment is required which means that you can exercise nearly anywhere including in hotel rooms, your apartment or maybe even at work.

Applications like Convict Conditioning assist in several ways. They may provide you with workout sets, instructions on how to perform individual exercises, and tracking options which can be useful to track your progress.

Convict Conditioning divides workouts into sets that consists of four core exercises in the categories pushups, leg raises, squats and pullups.

It displays different levels of each core exercise in its interface that you can pick one from. The main idea here is to work your way from easier exercises to harder ones, for instance from wall pushups over kneeling pushups to full pushups.

One interesting feature of the application is that you can select the level of each core exercise individually. If you are already trained when it comes to pullups for instance, then you can pick a more advanced exercise there  without affecting the level of the other core exercises.

Each exercise is listed with three intensity levels on top of that which provide you with suggestions to improve your workout gradually before you jump to the next in line.

The creators of the application suggest to train three times a week using one exercise of all four core groups the app ships with.

Text, photos and videos are used to explain exercises to users of the application.

Most exercises require no or only basic equipment, a chair or a wall for instance. Some may however require access to a ball or a pullup bar which exercisers may not have access to at all or all the time.

Convict Conditioning does not list alternatives which is unfortunate. Worst case is that you cannot do a core exercise at all -- pullups for instance -- as the majority of exercises listed there require access to a bar.

The Android app lists handstands and bridges additional exercise categories which it does not count as core exercise groups.

Closing Words

Convict Conditioning is a well designed applications that requires no special permissions to run. It ships without advertisement or in app purchases, and is easy to use both in handling and when it comes to understanding exercises.

The fitness app lacks options to pick alternatives, either because you don't have access to the required equipment or because you cannot do certain exercises.
