How to sort accounts in the email client Thunderbird manually

The email client Thunderbird lacks options to sort the order of accounts in the email client directly. It is for instance not possible to reorder accounts in the client's main pane via drag and drop.

We have covered add-ons in the past that allow you to reorder accounts and folders, but there is also a manual method that you can use instead.

The main advantage of it is that you don't have to rely on an add-on for that, the disadvantage that it is a complicated process.

A first look at Windows Firewall Notifier 2

Windows Firewall Notifier, which we reviewed back in 2011 for the first time, is a third-party program that improves the usability of the default firewall that Windows ships with.

Windows Firewall Notifier 2 has been released as an early alpha version recently that features a complete redesign and other changes; reason enough to take a closer look to see what is new, improved or changed.

The program itself has a packed size of less than 270 Kilobyte but is offered with an IP address database as well which adds more than 19 Megabyte to it-

Silent Install Helper brings silent batch installation of software to Windows

Silent Install Helper is a unique program for Windows that enables you to batch install and remove programs on the operating system while revealing useful information about each program that you load in its interface.

Windows users have a couple of options when it comes to deploying multiple programs on the system. It is probably easiest if you deploy portable programs as you can just drop them somewhere on the system and be done with it, but if software needs to be installed, it becomes less intuitive quickly.

Nights Keeper for Android: Do Not Disturb with Whitelist

Nights Keeper is a free application for devices running Android that adds do not disturb functionality to the device that blocks all but select contacts from reaching you via SMS or calls.

There are times where you may not want to be disturbed by phone calls or messages. Maybe late at night when you are asleep to avoid that some drunk friends call or message you, during meetings or presentations, or on your commute.

However, there may be a select few that you want to be reached by, for instance your parents, wife, boyfriend or the school principal.

Popular Software projects leave Sourceforge

The software project hosting website Sourceforge started to offer a new monetization option to projects hosted on the site in mid-2013 when it introduced install-wrappers which enabled projects to add third-party offers to installers on Windows to earn revenue from software installations.

The move back then was controversial but opt-in which meant that only select downloads on the site were wrapped in the installer.

How to convert media to audio with AIMP3

AIMP3 is an audio player for Windows that supports the conversion of video and audio files to audio formats among other things.

The program's audio converter is quite powerful as it supports a wide variety of input and output formats.

Some, like mp3, can be added to the player as they are not supported by default while others, including aac, flac, ogg or wma are supported by default by it.

To add mp3 support to AIMP3, do the following:

Firefox 41: change translation engine from Bing to Yandex

Mozilla has been working on implementing translation functionality in the Firefox web browser for some time now. We mentioned it first here on ComTek back in mid-2014 when it was implemented in Nightly versions of the web browser.

The feature has yet to land in the stable version of the Firefox browser as it is still being worked on. One core difference to Google Chrome's implementation of a translation engine is that Mozilla's is not limited to a single service.

How to enable Developer Mode in Windows 10 to sideload apps

If you are running a recent version of the Windows 10 Insider Preview, build 10122 or greater to be precise, then you may have noticed a new "For developers" option in the operating system's settings.

This configuration option allows you to enable modes intended for development, for instance to test applications that you are developing on a live system to ensure that they work properly.

Stream What You Hear streams sound to other devices

Sometimes, you may want to listen to audio on other devices than the one the audio is actually playing on. Maybe you want to listen to audio while you are in another room, for instance on your Xbox or Playstation system, or on a tablet while you are in the garden relaxing.

Setting up streaming solutions is not super easy though especially if you consider all the things that need to be configured to get it to work.

Stream What You Hear is a dead easy solution for Windows that enables you to stream sound (what you heard) from a PC running the program to compatible devices.
