There has been one major change in past years in regards to how the Firefox web browser is developed and shipped to its users. Mozilla changed to a rapid release cycle in 2011 and has been using the model ever since.

While the organization does not plan to change the six week cycle just yet, its Go Faster initiative changes how Firefox for the desktop is shipped.

Firefox 41: Mozilla modifies how icon fonts are handled by the browser

Version 41 of the Firefox web browser ships with a change that affects how icon fonts are handled by the browser if fonts are blocked in the preferences by the user.

Firefox users can block websites from selecting their own fonts. If they enable that option, no extra fonts get downloaded to the local system.

One consequence of blocking fonts downloads in Firefox is that so-called icon fonts are not displayed as well.

Emergency Patch for Windows vulnerability MS15-078 released (KB3079904)

Microsoft pushed out an emergency patch yesterday via automatic updates to all supported versions of its Windows operating system that patches a critical issue that could allow remote code execution when exploited successfully.

Specifically, the vulnerability exploits an issue in the Windows Adobe Type Manager Library when specially crafted documents with OpenType fonts are loaded on the system.

Microsoft to support Windows 10 until at least 2025

Microsoft updated the Windows lifecycle fact sheet in July 2015 to highlight the two support phases for its upcoming operating system Windows 10.

Windows 10, which will be officially unveiled and released on July 29, 2015 is provided as a free upgrade by the company to eligible users.

The announcement caused confusion among some users in January when it was first made as rumors came up that Microsoft would introduce a subscription-based service shortly after the one-year free period.
