Firefox 44 gets override for weak security certificate errors

When you open a web page currently in the Firefox browser that is using weak cryptography, then you will be redirected to an error page stating that the connection to the page failed.

Mozilla launched the new error page in Firefox 33. Before that, Firefox offered the means to enforce a connection to the site in question.

The reason for the failure to connect is given, for instance "secure connection failed", as is an option to try to connect to the site again or to report the error.

Nirsoft publishes antivirus list of shame

If you are using tools from Nirsoft, and you should if you are running a flavor of Windows on a machine, then you may have ran into issues before when an antivirus solution notified you that the program you were about to run was malicious in nature.

Nirsoft has been fighting with false positives for a long time, and I can only imagine how many support requests Nir Sofer gets about that.

What makes this even worse for him is that companies may blacklist his website or pages on it because of these false positives.

Fix Windows Update issues with Reset Windows Update Agent

Reset Windows Update Agent is a lightweight command-driven program for the Windows operating system that you can make use of to correct issues with the updating functionality of the Windows operating system.

Windows Update works fairly stable most of the time but sometimes, you may encounter issues while using the service. Updates may not be found, download or installed properly, you may not find new updates even though you know some are available, or you may get error messages when using the service.

Say Goodbye to native “OK Google” voice integration in Chrome on the desktop

Talking to Google while using Chrome on the desktop has become a tad harder in Chrome 46 as the company has removed the native integration of its voice control service Ok, Google from the web browser.

That does not mean that Chrome users cannot use their voice anymore to search on google as the option to do so is still baked in to the web service. The main difference is that you need to click or tap on the microphone icon first on pages supporting it before you can fire off voice searches or commands.

Browser Popcorn: Popcorn Time as a web service

The free application Popcorn Time made big waves when it was first released. Depending on who you'd ask, it was either the future of watching content on the Internet or yet another tool to stream movies illegally to users from all over the world.

The app combined a movie browser, media viewer and torrent client in a slick great looking and working interface, something that the media industry failed to deliver for years even if you take away the torrent part of the equation.

Fingers crossed: Firefox 64-bit for Windows to be released when Firefox 42 comes out

While there is certainly some truth to the saying that good things take time, no one probably anticipated the drama surrounding the release of a 64-bit version of Firefox. If they would have, they would have probably not used it in this case.

So, Firefox has been available as a 64-bit version for Linux and Mac systems for a very long time. There are also 64-bit development versions of Firefox for Windows, but no stable versions yet.

Latest Vivaldi snapshot brings support for HTML5 MP4 Video and MP3 Audio

Vivaldi's most recent snapshot, which brings the version of the web browser to 1.0.300.5, brings improvements to the browser's audio and video playback capabilities.

After a series of bug fix releases, Vivaldi has pushed out a new update for the browser that extends the browser's media streaming functionality significantly.

The developers have added support for HTML5 MP4 video (H.264, MPEG-4AVC & AAC), and MP3 Audio which, according to the company, should improve compatibility with many multimedia sites on the Internet.

Fixing “the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000018)” in Windows

I have received the error message "the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000018)" twice already ever since I upgraded one of my machines to Microsoft's new operating system Windows 10.

A double-click on the application icon in the taskbar does not start the linked program at all but throws the error message instead.

The only option provided by the prompt is to hit the ok button to close it. I experienced this twice with Google Chrome Canary and not with other programs installed on the system.

Future Nvidia Game-Ready drivers will require registration

Nvidia revealed a massive list of changes coming to its GeForce Experience service that it ships as a standalone program and as part of the Nvidia driver package offered on the company website.

We reviewed the GeForce Experience service back in 2012 when it first came out. It was designed back then to provide PC users with an easy way to play games by configuring them for the best experience automatically.

How to prevent HSTS tracking in Firefox

HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) was designed to help secure websites (those using HTTPS) by declaring to web browsers that they should communicate only via HTTPS with the server to protect connections against downgrade attacks and cookie hijacking.

Mozilla implemented support for HSTS in its current form in Firefox in 2014 and it has been active in all Firefox versions ever since.
