Thunderbird usage is on the rise

Thunderbird usage is on the rise according to latest usage information published by Mozilla on the official blog.

The email client that celebrated its eleventh birthday on December 7 crossed the 10 million Active Daily Inquiries (ADI) mark for the first time on November 30, 2015.

Mozilla measures usage by counting the pings it receives from the product it maintains. The email client is configured to check for plugin blocklist updates regularly, and that's where the 10 million figure comes from.

Open Live Writer: Windows Live Writer fork that is open source

Windows Live Writer was a desktop publishing software for Windows that Microsoft offered as part of Windows Live. The program supported several popular blogging platforms that authors and webmasters could add to the service to create and publish blog posts from the desktop instead of the platform's native dashboard.

The last version of Windows Live Writer was released in 2012 as part of Windows Essentials 2012. Microsoft released no further updates for the program and it seemed for a while that Microsoft retired it.

2016 will be an important year for Mozilla, maker of the Firefox web browser and proponent of an open Web.

The organization announced plans this month to shift Firefox OS development away from smartphones to connected devices, and to drop the email client Thunderbird from its portfolio of applications.
