DonationCoder NANY 2016 Software released

NANY is an annual event over at the DonationCoder community website where members of the community pledge to develop applications for the new year.

Considering that you have access to hundreds of programs created for NANY events, you can almost be certain that you find something of interest created during the event.

This year was a low-key event according to DonationCoder as it was not promoted outside of the forum.

Actually, if I would not visit the forum regularly to find out what is new and hot, I would not really heard about it either.

And the product with the most distinct vulnerabilities in 2015 is..

Rarely a day goes by without news of another vulnerability hitting an operating system, software, device, or service on the web.  These reports have become part of everyone's online life and all users can do is stay informed and close security issues as soon as companies make available patches for them to do so.

While it is sometimes possible to mitigate vulnerabilities, often users are left with no other recourse but to wait for a company to release a patch. Sometimes, that patch is never produced.

Mozilla to improve Firefox WebKit compatibility

WebKit-based browsers are a dominating force, especially in the mobile world where they are dominating the landscape but more and more also on the desktop.

This should not be a problem compatibility-wise for non-WebKit-based browsers like Firefox, but the truth is that it depends largely on developers and site operators if that is indeed the case.

So-called -webkit prefixed CSS properties and features are being used around the web to make sites and services display fine in WebKit-based browsers.

AVG putting millions of Chrome users at risk

Security company AVG, well known for its free and commercial security products that offer a wide range of security related safeguards and services, has put millions of Chrome users at risk recently by breaking Chrome security in a fundamental way in one of its extensions for the web browser.

AVG, like many other security companies offering free products, is using different monetization strategies to earn revenue from its free offerings.
