First look at Universal Extractor 2

Universal Extractor 2 is an unofficial rewrite of the original application that offers additional features and other improvements.

Universal Extractor is a handy program for Windows that enables you to extract the contents of supported installer files and archives.

The original program has not been updated since 2010, and while it works fine in many situations, a lack of updates usually means that it falls short in some regards. It may not be able to cope with new file formats, and if you encounter bugs or issues, those won't be resolved either.

Firefox 44:”Ask me every time” cookie option removed

Mozilla removed one of the available cookie control options in Firefox 44 effectively disabling the option for users to decide what to do with cookies that sites want to set on a per-cookie basis.

Firefox users had several options in regards to cookies ever since it was released to the public. Users could allow or block all cookies, configure exceptions for sites, block all third-party cookies, or configure the behavior to display a prompt whenever a site requests to set a cookie.

Find public toilets with Flush for Android

Flush is a free application for Google Android devices that provides you with options to find public toilets quickly.

The app may use your current location for its searches if you allow it to access location information, or you may enter a location directly to display information about public toilets this way.

The application uses information of its users to list public restrooms, and one of the core features that it makes available is an option to report a public toilet and to add a new one to the listing.

Block programs from loading untrusted fonts in Windows 10

Microsoft implemented a new security feature in Windows 10's November update build that added an option to the operating system to block the loading of untrusted fonts.

The use of fonts has always been problematic in the Windows operating system from a security point of view as bugs in font-handling code could give attackers high-level privileges.

NetworkOpenedFiles is a free portable program for the Windows operating system that displays open network files in its interface on launch.

The application displays all files that are currently open by other computers on a network giving users a quick overview of these files.

The program itself is easy to use, as it displays all relevant information on start without any user interaction.

It lists folders and files open currently, and various information about each item listed in its interface.

Deceptive Site Ahead: Google to warn about fake buttons

Google announced yesterday an addition to the company's Safe Browsing technology (Deceptive Site Ahead) that will flag sites with deceptive buttons to users of the company's Chrome web browser and in other programs that make use of Safe Browsing.

Deceptive buttons, either in the form of advertisement displayed on a page or embedded directly on a page by the owner of the site, come in many forms.

Security Issues in Malwarebytes Anti-Malware disclosed

A recently disclosed vulnerability in Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (free, premium and enterprise) allows attackers to run man in the middle attacks against systems running the software.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a popular second-opinion scanner, and the premium and enterprise editions of the program add real-time protection among other things to it which bring it more in line with traditional antivirus solutions.

The program is held in high regard by many for its malware detection and cleaning capabilities.

Tab handling changed in latest Vivaldi browser snapshot

Vivaldi released a new snapshot of the up and coming web browser bringing it to version 1.0.385.5 that introduces changes to how tabs are handled in the program.

Tabs are an essential part of every modern desktop browser, and the way tabs get opened and closed is essential to a user's workflow while using the browser.

Most browsers use either relational or chronological methods when it comes to tabs. Relational refers to the creation of families of tabs that are in relation to each other, and that's what Vivaldi has implemented in the most recent snapshot of the browser.
