CrashPlan shutting down Home consumer backup service

CrashPlan CEO Joe Payne announced today plans to shut down the company's consumer backup service CrashPlan for Home entirely.

According to the announcement, CrashPlan for Home subscriptions are not offered anymore already, and renewals have been disabled as well.

Existing customer subscriptions are honored by the company, and an additional 60 days of service is added to each existing subscription to give customers ample time to migrate to another backup service.

Starting October 23, 2018, CrashPlan for Home will no longer be available.

Acronis True Image 2018 protects against ransomware

Acronis True Image 2018 is the newest version of the company's personal backup software for devices running Windows and Mac operating systems.

The commercial backup software comes with a range of new features, among them a security feature called Active Protection Technology that protects Windows devices against ransomware attacks.

The anti-ransomware technology protects Acronis True Image, back up data, and system data against ransomware threats.

Guides by Lonely Planet for Android

Guides by Lonely Planet is a free application for Google Android that provides you with free city guides curated by Lonely Planet.

It takes at least some preparation to visit a different city in your own country or another country. This ranges from figuring out how to get there and where to stay, but also what you may want to see and do once you are there.

Traditional travel guides are more and more replaced by online solutions, and one of the solutions is Guides by Lonely Planet for Android.

Run Chrome Stable, Beta and Dev side-by-side on Windows

Chrome uses on Windows could not use Chrome Stable and one of the pre-release versions of the browser side-by-side up until now.

This changes with today's announcement as Google lifted the restriction. This means that it is now possible to install and run Chrome Stable and pre-release versions of Chrome on Windows.

YouTube’s improved Blur Faces tool launches

Ryan Stevens, Software Engineer at YouTube, announced today that YouTube has updated the service's Blur Faces tool to improve its accuracy and ease of use.

YouTube introduced a face blurring tool back in 2012 as a feature to anonymize faces in videos. The feature blurred all faces that the algorithm detected automatically which limited the use of the feature significantly.

Microsoft removes ReFS file system create option from Windows 10 Pro

Microsoft will remove support for creating ReFS (Resilient File System) storage devices for all versions of Windows 10 except for Windows 10 Enterprise and the upcoming Windows 10 Pro for Workstations in the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.

The company published a list of features that will be deprecated or removed in the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update in July.
