Audacity 2.2.0 major update released

Audacity 2.2.0 is a new major version of the popular cross-platform open source audio editing software that comes with pre-installed themes and more.

The new version of Audacity can be downloaded from the project website for all supported operating systems. Windows users can download a portable version or setup version of Audacity 2.2.0, existing users may select Help > Check for updates from within the program interface instead to start the update process.

Evading Autoruns, or: don’t rely solely on Autoruns for security

Autoruns is a popular program for Windows to analyze all the different files, programs, and other items that run on system startup.

It is probably the most used tool for that purpose, and includes lots of nice to have features such as scanning files on Virustotal, hiding Microsoft entries, or management of autorun files to disable or delete items directly from within the program.

Microsoft Store is the main hub of the Windows operating system to download apps and games, and make purchases.

Some apps and games, but mostly games, play videos automatically when you open their Store page. The game Kholat does so for instance when you open it in Microsoft's Store (but not when you open the store page in a browser of your choice).

So, regardless of what distribution being used, there are things that I do after every single install I do, and I thought perhaps I would share some of them with you; perhaps something I do is missing from your setup and you might like to include it!

Mozilla launches redesigned Firefox Add-ons website

Mozilla launched a redesign of the official Firefox Add-ons website recently which changed the look and feel, and some functionality of the site.

Firefox Add-ons, or Mozilla AMO, is the central repository for Firefox add-ons. While it is still possible to offer add-ons elsewhere, the vast majority of add-ons is offered on Mozilla's official site.

The first thing you will notice is that the layout and visuals of the site have changed. The "explorer" page, the first that is opened when you open the Add-ons website, lists individual add-ons, topics, and themes.

Hardware information and monitoring software HWiNFO 5.60 released

The computer hardware information and monitoring software HWiNFO32 and HWiNFO64 5.60 has been released on November 2, 2017.

We reviewed the application in 2015 when HWiNFO 5.0 introduced remote sensor monitoring.

HWiNFO is available as a 32-bit and 64-bit program for Microsoft Windows devices. It can be used as a portable application, or installed on devices. There is even a DOS version available but it is no longer updated.
