Create temporary emails and phone numbers with Moakt

Even though there is an abundance of free email services for you to choose from on the Internet, temporary email services have their uses.

I like to use them whenever a service requires an email address for registration that I don't trust or don't plan to use for a longer period of time.

If I want to check out a service for a review for instance, I might use a temporary email service such as Yopmail to sign up for it.

Moakt is another service that looks on first glance similar to temporary email services that I have reviewed in the past.

You can use it to create a temporary email address manually by typing in the desired name and selecting one of the available domain names the service provides you with, or by clicking on the random address button instead.

This address is live for 60 minutes by default but you have options to extend that period with a click on a button in the interface. Extend means that the timer is reset to 60 minutes which means that you will never have more time left than one hour.

All emails received by the address are listed in the interface right away. Each message is listed with its title, the sender name and email, and an option to delete it. Especially the last option is important as it is the only way to make sure that no one else can read it.

Since most users are probably using it to sign up for accounts on the Internet, it is a safety precaution to protect the account against hijacks.

What sets Moakt apart from other services of its kind is that it supports temporary phone numbers as well.

These can only be used to receive SMS but that is probably the number one reason anyway.

Some services require you to enter a phone number to verify the account. You can use Moakt for that as it supports temporary phone numbers that can receive verification SMS.

Note: You don't have control over the numbers or messages. This means that others may stumble upon the verification SMS which they may use in turn to hijack the account. Even if deletion would be possible -- it is not -- it could still mean that others try the phone number to sign up for the same service which will inform them about the existing account as well.

This means basically that it is ideal for temporary accounts and use and not for permanent use as you cannot protect your account against hijackings.

Moakt works really well though and both email and phone services display received messages shortly after they have been sent.
