IObit Uninstaller 6 adds Microsoft Edge support

IObit Uninstaller 6 is a long-standing program uninstaller for Windows devices that scans for and removes leftovers after the removal process.

A first beta version of Uninstaller 6 has been announced on the official forum. Downloads are provided by Majorgeeks currently.

The company added new features to its program in recent iterations. On Windows 8 and newer devices, it enables you to remove Windows Apps.

Additionally, you may remove browser add-ons, toolbars and plugins from major web browsers using the application. Supported were Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Opera up until now; but this changes with the next version of the application.

One of the big feature additions of IObit Uninstaller 6 is support for Microsoft Edge. You find the browser listed under the Toolbars & Plug-ins section in the program.

If you run a recent Insider Build of Windows 10 and have installed extensions in Edge already, you see them listed there.

Options are provided to uninstall Microsoft Edge extensions using Uninstaller 6. While it may not be necessary usually to use a third-party program for that, you may remove malicious or problematic extensions this way.

Also, you may remove multiple extensions at once which may speed up the process.

The only other option provided for Microsoft Edge is to reset the browser to its default settings. When you click on the option, you may use IObit Uninstaller to reset the Microsoft Edge home page and default search engine.

The wording is problematic, as some users may assume that all settings of Edge get reset to defaults when they encounter the option for the first time. You will only realize that this is not the case when you click on it.

One interesting feature, the most interesting if you ask me, is the listing of injected programs under Toolbars & Plug-ins.

Third-party dll injections into the browser are listed for each supported browser.

Other changes

The interface of the program resembles IOBit Uninstaller 5, released in 2015. Some elements have been moved around but for the most part, it uses a similar interface.

The majority of other changes are under-the-hood.

  • Larger database for malicious and ad-based browser plugins.
  • Additional support for removing stubborn programs and browser plugins.
  • Improved scan functionality to be faster and more thorough.

IObit did remove two features from the beta: Win Manager and Tools. Win Manager enabled you to manage startup items, check processes and manage Windows Updates. Windows Updates was removed to the All Programs listing, and Startup to the "tools" icon in the upper right corner of the interface. The option to check processes is not included currently.

Considering that the program is released as a beta, it is possible that they are added at a later point in time.

The tools menu has been moved to the top right corner. There you find listed the uninstall history, which reveals past activity, the file shredder, and cleanup tool.

Closing Words

IObit Uninstaller 6 focuses on improving the previous version of the program instead of reinventing the wheel. Support for Microsoft Edge is a welcome addition to the program, and better and faster scanning is always welcome.
