Turn off video autoplay in Microsoft Store

Microsoft Store is the main hub of the Windows operating system to download apps and games, and make purchases.

Some apps and games, but mostly games, play videos automatically when you open their Store page. The game Kholat does so for instance when you open it in Microsoft's Store (but not when you open the store page in a browser of your choice).

While some Windows Store users may find that useful, others may find it distracting. The video plays automatically when you open the Store page; you need to click on the video to pause playback, or let the video run its course as it will stop automatically when that happens.

The most recent version of Microsoft Store comes with a preference that you may use to toggle the video autoplay behavior. Basically, what it allows you to do is turn off the feature so that videos don't autoplay anymore when you open apps or games with autoplaying videos in the Store.

Note: Disabling autoplaying videos won't turn off the background videos that play when you open TV shows or movies in the Microsoft Store. These background videos continue to play, and there is no option available to turn this off currently.

Here is how you turn off autoplaying videos in the Microsoft Store (note that you need to have version 11710.1000.94.0 or higher for that).

  1. Open the Microsoft Store application on the Windows 10 device.
  2. Select the menu icon in the top right corner next to the search (the three dots), and then Settings from the menu that opens.
  3. The new "video autoplay" toggle is on that page. Simply click on the toggle to turn the feature off. You can turn it on again at any time by repeating the process.

The very same page lists the Store version. Scroll down all the way to the bottom of the page to see the Microsoft Store version listed there.
