Nvidia Geforce driver 388.31 WHQL: new profiles, fixes, issues

Nvidia released a new version of the company's driver for graphics card; the new Nvidia Geforce driver 388.31 WHQL brings Game Ready profiles for Star Wars Battlefront 2, some fixes, but it also introduces some new issues.

As always when it comes to new drivers for Nvidia hardware, make sure you only install the part of the Nvidia driver that you require. Once done, remove any bits of Telemetry on the system as well.

The new version of the driver comes with new game ready profiles for the following games: Star Wars Battlefront II, Injustice 2, Destiny 2.

It furthermore comes with SLI profiles for Eve Valkyrie -- Warzone and Star Wars: Battlefront II., and 3D Vision profiles for Injustice 2 and Star Wars Battlefront II.

The new Nvidia driver 388.31 introduces a set of new features, some useful to many Nvidia owners, others only for a minority.

The driver adds support for the Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 Ti video card, and Nvidia GameStream support for HDR on Microsoft's Windows 10 operating system.

Other features that it improves or adds are Fast Sync support for SLI for Nvidia Maxwell GPUs  (for resolutions of less than 4k) and Nvidia Pascal and later GPUs (all resolutions), support for DirectX Intermediate Language (DXIL), and support for OpenGL 4.6.

Several SLI profiles and 3D Vision profiles for games such as Middle-Earth:Shadow of Mordor, Assassin's Creed or Snake Pass were updated on top of that.

Nvidia's GeForce 388.31 driver fixes several issues. Good news for users who ran into micro-stutter issues; Nvidia fixed one of the issues that was caused by GPU monitoring software that monitor GPU power when games are played.

The three fixes below address special issues:

• [GeForce GTX 1080][eGPU][notebook]: NVIDIA driver could not find compatible graphics hardware on the Alienware Amplifier.
•  [3D Vision Notebook]: There is no “Set stereoscopic 3D" link available in the NVIDIA Control Panel.
• [GeForce GTX 970M][]Notebook][Pattern Design Software]: Objects drawn in the application are not visible.

The new GeForce 388.31 introduces new issues that will affect some users. Windows 10 users on the Fall Creators Update version of the operating system may notice that color setting changes made in the Nvidia Control Panel are not permanent; they are reset after a system reboot or restart.

Geforce Titan users will run into issues in which the operating system fails after installing the graphics card on a Threadripper-enabled motherboard.

Kepler GPU owners may run into hangs in the Star Wars Battlefront II game when they launch the game in DirectX 12 API mode.

Last but not least, GeForce GTX 780 Ti may run into display issue when the DisplayPort and two DVI monitors.
