Pale Moon blocks Adblock Plus

Users of the Pale Moon web browser who try to install the popular adblocking extension Adblock Plus won't be able to do so anymore as it was added to the blocklist by the Pale Moon team.

Pale Moon users who have it installed may have noticed that it is no longer enabled either.

Up until now, Pale Moon copied the blocklist from Firefox. It contains extensions, plugins and other contents with known severe security or stability issues.

Fix duplicate icon issues on the Windows taskbar

The improved taskbar that Microsoft introduced in Windows 7 was a welcome change to many users. It supported the pinning of programs to the taskbar so that they could be opened from it with just a click.

This was more comfortable than using desktop shortcuts or the start menu for the operation.

The same taskbar is also part of windows 8 and Windows 10.

Control ads Google shows to you

Google ads are nearly everywhere: when you search, read emails, watch videos, use mobile devices and in lots of other places.

The "Control your Google ads" website gives you control over the advertisement that Google shows to you on websites, in apps and elsewhere.

The company uses interests that it associates with user accounts to deliver advertisement by default. These interests may come from the Google profile and past activities such as watching videos on YouTube or searching on Google Search.

NET Framework verification and cleanup tools for Windows 10

Windows 10, just like previous versions of Windows, ships with versions of Microsoft's .NET Framework installed on the system by default and options to install previous versions that are not automatically installed when applications require them.

This means that you may end up with several different .NET Framework versions installed on your system to ensure backwards compatibility.

The missing frameworks are then downloaded from the Internet and installed on the system afterwards.

Mozilla improves about:performance page in latest Firefox Nightly

Mozilla introduced the Performance Monitor in Firefox Nightly about three months ago. The new internal page of Firefox listed performance related data for all installed add-ons and open websites.

While that was useful to find misbehaving add-ons or sites quickly, the way that data was presented was far from ideal.

Probably the biggest issue was the terminology that Mozilla used on the page, and then to a lesser degree how the data was displayed on it.

Media Feature Pack for Windows 10 N and KN versions

So-called N and KN versions of Windows 10 are designed specifically for legal requirements in certain markets such as the European Union.

The core difference to regular versions of Windows 10 is that they don't include Windows Media Player and certain apps such as Skype, Music, Video or Voice Recorder, that come preinstalled with regular versions of the operating system.

Check if System Restore is enabled on Windows 10

If you have set up Windows 10 on a new machine or upgraded to the new operating system from a previous one, you may be surprised that one of the system's core restoration features, System Restore, may not be running.

System Restore is a handy feature that creates snapshots of certain files and information before critical operations such as updates or software installations takes place.

This enables users of the system to go back to a previous state if things went wrong along the way.

How to remove core apps in Windows 10

Windows 10 ships with a set of core applications that are installed automatically. While some users may find some or even all of those apps useful, others may not.

If you are using a dedicated email program for instance, you may not need the Mail app for that. And if you are not a gamer, you may not want games on the system as they take up space but don't serve any purpose.

Most installed apps are listed in the settings but when you try to remove a core application you will notice that this is not possible.
