How to find your phone using Google Search

Remember Android Device Manager? Google introduced the service back in 2013 to help you locate your phone and erase the device if it was stolen or cannot be found anymore.

It required that you enable the service on the device before you could use the web dashboard to track down the phone.

If you did not do that, you had no option to locate your phone using the device manager service.

Google to switch all users to the new Google Maps

Google community manager Abby announced on the official Google Maps forum yesterday that the company will move all users of Google Maps to the new version of the product soon.

The same message appears on Google Maps if the classic version of the application is still being used.

Up until now it was possible to switch back to the classic version of Google Maps but that option won't be available anymore then as the classic version will be removed completely.

Web Alert is a powerful website monitoring app for Android

Web Alert is a free application for Android devices that monitors websites or parts of websites and notifies you of changes.

It can be quite useful to keep an eye on websites: from monitoring the price of items on shopping sites to making sure you are notified the minute new content is added to a site.

While you could check for those things manually, automation ensures that you are informed right after the change.

Chrome 42 blocks Java, Silverlight, other plugins by default now

Google pushed out an update to the stable channel of its browser Chrome yesterday that brought the version of the browser to 42.

With it comes the second phase of a major change in regards to how plugins are handled by the browser.

If you follow ComTek4u you know that Google made the decision to phase out so-called NPAPI plugins in the Chrome browser and Chromium this year.

uBlock Origin extension taken down from Chrome Store by Google

The past week has not been easy for uBlock users as lots of things happened in that time. The first thing that happened was that Raymond Hill (Gorhill), the creator of uBlock, left the project.

It is up to this day not really clear what led to the decision only that he made it and that someone else took over.

Then, Gorhill forked the original uBlock and created uBlock₀ or uBlock Origin (what is it with those names?).

Firefox 40 Nightly for Android gets handy Open Later option

Mozilla added a new feature to Firefox 40 on Android that acts as a queue for urls that are sent to the browser.

The main idea behind the feature is to prevent immediate application switching when opening urls from other apps on Android.

Urls that you tap on in other applications such as Gmail or Whats App open in the default browser on the system right away currently.

While that may be handy at times, it may be an issue if you want to open multiple urls or want to keep on reading a message or article before switching to the web browser of choice on Android.

Remembr is a basic Windows clipboard manager

Remembr is a free Windows clipboard manager that is currently being developed by the creator of CCEnhancer, JavaRa and System Ninja.

I use the clipboard a lot throughout the day. Copy urls to link to them in articles that I write, copy passwords and login data from the local password manager KeePass, or copy text between sites and documents.

While I don't mind the one slot limitation of the Windows clipboard that much, it is certainly comfortable if past entries are not overwritten automatically anymore once you copy new content to the clipboard.
