Process email, spreadsheet or web data automatically with TaskPipes

TaskPipes reminded me a lot of Yahoo Pipes when I started to browse the demos available on the company website. The service lets you process email, spreadsheet or web data automatically based on instructions that you program once.

That's sounds very technical but the system has been designed so that anyone can work with it as it is dead easy to use once you grasp the underlying concept.

Each new pipe is defined by a data input source and one or multiple steps that you define during creation.

KidFox: native parental controls for Firefox on Android

Mozilla plans to release the first version of Kidfox, a parental control system for Firefox running on Android tablets, in Firefox 42.

This control system allows parents to customize and lock down specific features of the web browser for children that use the device and Firefox.

The main idea behind the feature is to give parents more control over what their children can or cannot do when using Firefox.

Use PowerShell to manage Scheduled Tasks in Windows

I check several locations regularly on Windows systems that I run including the Windows Task Manager to list running processes, the autostart entries, and also the scheduled tasks of the system.

I do that for a couple of reasons including security to make sure nothing slipped by and is running on the system that I consider malicious, spyware or unwanted in other ways, but also to debloat the system by disabling, blocking or removing programs from starting with the system or on schedule.

Enable VP9 in Microsoft Edge for better HTML5 streaming support

Microsoft continues its work on the Edge browser that it shipped with Windows 10 in the latest Insider build 10547 released to the Fast Ring a while ago.

One new feature that is found in the version of Microsoft Edge that shipped with that new Windows 10 Build is support for VP9.

Support for the VP9 is not enabled by default but can be enabled by users of the browser. This is done in the following way:

Google adds easier blocking option to Gmail

Gmail is without doubt one of the better platforms when it comes to automatic spam detection and prevention.

While that is the case, there are still situations where spam may slip through the cracks or where a legitimate non-spam sender is offensive or disruptive.

Gmail won't block these messages by default and if you wanted to block a sender previously, you had to use the email system's mail filtering options to do so.

Microsoft improves Environment Variables editor in latest Windows 10 build

The Windows operating system uses two sets of Environment Variables: system variables and user variables.

The former is a set of critical system variables like the path of the Windows directory or the command line interpreter that is being used while the latter defines variables set by a particular user either by setting them directly or installing programs on the system that made the modifications for the user.

Microsoft restores Personalization menu in Windows 10’s Control Panel

Microsoft up until now made no secret of wanting to merge the classic Windows Control Panel with the Windows 10 Settings menu to improve usability in regards to customizing and configuring the operating system.

The company introduced Settings back in Windows 8 and expanded it in Windows 10. While that is the case, Settings still lacks many options that users only find in the Control Panel.

One of the issues here is that users have to juggle between the two programs, and that it is sometimes difficult to find a setting.
