MicEnum enumerates the integrity level of Windows files and folders

Microsoft introduced the new security concept Mandatory Integrity Control (MIC) in Windows Vista when the operating system first came out which added trustworthiness levels to files and folders by adding Integrity Levels (IL) isolation to running processes.

So, instead of running everything at the same level as the user, Windows with the implementation of MIC could then restrict access permissions based on those levels.

MicEnum has been designed to provide users with an easy to use tool to enumerate the integrity levels of files and folders on Windows.

Everything you need to know about ads on Facebook

Advertisement is one of Facebook's primary revenue sources. You may see ads on your Facebook News Feed, mobile apps and other locations on the site.

Businesses create these ads on Facebook and control who sees them in detail. They have access to parameters for that, for instance gender, age or interests, to show ads only to their target audience.

Tails is a privacy focused Live operating system

I have not covered Live operating systems in a long while. These systems are usually Linux-based and allow you to boot into the system without installing software or making any changes to the data that is on a computer.

Basically, they run independent of the host system they are run on which, as an added side-effect, means you can run them on nearly any computer system that supports USB, SD cards or optical discs.

Tails is a privacy-focused Live operating system that is easy to use but mighty powerful at the same time.

Firefox 43: Tracking Protection with blocklist selection

Firefox 42 Stable, which will be released on November 3, 2015 if the schedule holds, will ship with Tracking Protection, a new feature enabled in Firefox's private browsing mode to improve a user's privacy while using the mode.

The feature blocks certain connections from being made to limit the exposure to tracking on the Internet. This works similar to how blocking extensions and programs

Latest Windows 10 Insider Build fixes Start Menu, Search and other issues

Microsoft continues its work on Windows 10 and has just released a new build to the Fast Ring channel.

The company has changed how operating system updates are created and deployed significantly with the release of Windows 10.

Instead of releasing big Service Pack or Feature updates, it is pushing out smaller updates to select channels.

These are the things Microsoft needs to improve in Windows 10

I have used Windows 10 in one form or another ever since Microsoft released the first public preview build of the operating system.

While I like it more than Windows 8, it feels like an incomplete operating system in several regards as if Microsoft rushed the operating system to get it out in time for the Holiday season.

Recent Vivaldi snapshots add bookmark sorting, private browsing and more

Vivaldi is the web browser that I'm most excited about currently as the design philosophy of the team seems to diverge significantly from other mainstream browsers who all seem inclined to limit and streamline functionality for a variety of reasons.

The Vivaldi team released four snapshots of the web browser since our last review of it adding new features and improvements to it in the process.

Remove Libraries, Network, Homegroup and other links from File Explorer

When you open File Explorer in Windows 10, the system's default file browsing and management tool, you will notice immediately that it displays two panes in the main interface.

The left pane lists mostly hardcoded links to system locations such as Libraries, This PC, Network, Homegroup, One Drive or Quick Access while the right the contents of the active location.

G Data Secure Chat for Android protects your private messages

It is rather difficult to keep an overview of all the secure texting and messaging solution available for Android simply because there are so many different ones available for the platform.

German security company G Data just released Secure Chat which adds itself to the list.

The free version of the application supports three core features that all users can make use of. It supports encrypted SMS messages, encrypted group chat, and messages that self-destruct after a set amount of time.

AquaSnap lets you customize Windows 10’s snap functionality

You may have read my article on things that I find annoying in Microsoft's new operating system Windows 10 (if you have not, I suggest you do that).

One of the things that I find annoying is the new snap functionality of the operating system. I have used Windows 7's snap feature ever since it was released in one of the early preview versions and still find it one of the best features that Microsoft introduced in Windows 7.
